It is with heart, soul and great passion that our wine growers and cellar masters take the challenge to successfully create mineral rich wines of exceptional character from the best vineyards in Kallstadt. The long tradition of our cooperative has existed since 1902. Thanks to continuous growth and the constant pursuit of perfection, we are now counted as one of the most modern plants in the Palatinate, with 224 hectares of vineyards. Traditional craftsmanship together with innovative development characterizes our wines, which carry the insignia of the Lion of Kallstadt.
Our Philosophy
The foundation for every great wine is a healthy grape, which we harvest through a delicate process when mature. White wine is fermented in a cool and reserved process, whereas our red wine is processed through a gentle must fermentation. It is after this controlled fermentation process that we allow the wine the time and rest it needs to fully mature. Our full-bodied red wines are cellared for up to 24 months in either oak barrique or classic wooden barrels, while our elegant white wines are cellared in oxidation-proof stainless steel tanks.
Likewise in the production of our sparkling wines do we rely on tradition. Only the finest wines are put through a second fermentation, the traditional “bottle fermentation” - a nine-month maturity process, which gives a sprightly and bubbly sparkling wine. This has seen our quality endeavors continuously rewarded with the highest national and international wine awards in recent years.
Our Wines
From the beginning we have felt an unconditional obligation towards our Riesling. This cultural heritage we maintain just as carefully as our burgundy specialties. 62% of our grapes are white varieties, with Riesling and Burgundy accounting for 80%. Red grape makes up the remaining 38%, the focus here being on Spätburgunder, Dornfelder and Portugieser. Palatinate classics such as Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe and St. Laurent thrive here, as do as the internationally renowned Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon und Chardonnay varietals.
Our vineyards
Protected by the Palatinate Forest and the ancient Kallstadt quarries, our wines, thriving in thousands of years old lime-marl, pass through the various soil structures of sand, loess, clay and gravel. Our wines clearly reflect their origins and are distinguished and characterized by the great harmony between elegance, body and rich extracts. Our most renowned vineyards are the "Kallstadter Kobnert" the "Kallstadter Kreidkeller" and "Kallstadter Saumagen”, which lie in Germany´s finest wine location.
